During this particularly stressful time we are able to offer emergency treatment should the need arise in the coming weeks because we are regarded as an essential service. Our regulator has advised that treatment should be limited to pain relief only and there are significant restrictions as to what we can do. For example, we are not allowed to do any procedure which creates an aerosol (a spray); in essence no adhesive fillings or drilling (although smoothing an edge of a broken tooth might be possible).
Active treatment is further restricted in that no direct treatment at all is permitted in general practice for those with Covid 19 or in vulnerable groups. (but see below). These restrictions apply to all dental practices in Jersey
If you have a dental problem/pain (whatever your health status) you should, in the first instance contact me either at firstname.lastname@example.org or by sending a text to 07797-730899.
I will get back in touch usually within a few hours. It may well be that pain relief can be achieved with antibiotics, analgesics (pain-killers) or some sort of physical medicine. If that is not the case and if you are NOT in a high risk group, I should be able to see you within a day or so for emergency treatment at the practice. For those patients in the risk group or who require active intervention (creating an aerosol), special arrangements have been made at a central facility in St. Helier where all the necessary protective clothing is available.
In the first instance, always contact me by email or by text on 07797-730899. (If you do not have access to email or a mobile phone, a message can be left on answerphone at 865588).
Along with everyone else, it is my hope that everything can return safely to normal as soon as possible, that we can return to our respective lives and livelihoods and that we, as a community, suffer both medically, emotionally and economically, as little as can be achieved. Unfortunately, it would appear that it is going to take at least a couple of months. All the staff at Broad Street Dental Care join me in wishing you and your family a safe journey through these most worrying and difficult of times.
With kind regards,
Nick O’Hare BDS MFGDP(UK)
